The Lord's Prayer actually came
with instructions!

Have you read them?
It's human nature to only refer to the instructions when you can't get your new purchase to work, or after you've tried to assemble it and it looks totally different than it should!! We go to the instructions as a last resort.

There are specific ways Jesus taught us to pray the Lord's Prayer, and ways He said we shouldn't-- Dos and Don'ts.

In this episode we look at these important principles. If you have been trying to pray the Lord's Prayer and it's not been a great experience, this super-practical podcast will coach you in how to get more from it.

If it has been a growing blessing to you, find out ways to even gain more-- there is no limit!

The Joy of Holiness

Rooted Prayer Podcast

We are looking in this blog/podcast at the petition in the Lord's Prayer of "Forgive us our sins".
For some of us, these are uncomfortable words to pray, they imply that we have sinned and all our natural self-justification and defensiveness rises up. We are prone to excuse ourselves or deflect blame, just like Adam and Eve did.

Thankfully, the petition Jesus gave us to pray is "Forgive us our sins" not "Forgive us IF we have sinned." He's already aware that we have, He already sees and knows, and He is inviting us out of the shame and hiddenness!

In this podcast we explore how holiness has gotten a bad rap by our culture. It's been distorted to become a rigid, joyless, severe lifestyle that nobody is interested in pursuing. If anything, our culture mocks holiness, and we have been intimidated by this mockery to retreat from honouring and pursuing this virtue.
Picture
But God is holy, and the scriptures speak of the beauty of holiness....  so there is something here to reclaim, a true perspective on the worth, even the JOY of holiness!

Enjoy this newest podcast and get excited about a new pursuit of holiness that we can discover by praying the Lord's Prayer!

Your Kingdom Come on the Great Commission Day!

Today is the Day of Ascension, the day when Jesus ascended to heaven to take up the full authority as King of Kings. “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me…”  (Mt 28:18)
Today is also the day the Great Commission was given, a commission all about the expanding of Jesus’ Kingdom into the hearts of men, women, and children throughout the nations. It’s a day to celebrate Jesus’ authority and leadership — but also a day to pray for global harvest.

Actually, it’s more than just one day to pray, it’s a day to be refocused in prayer for the harvest that is before us!
Growing initiatives are rising around the globe for seeing harvest sweep the nations —
  • The Thy Kingdom Come prayer initiative that began by the Anglicans but which has exploded. Ten days of focused prayer for people to come to Christ. May 10-20
  • The Global Outreach Day — May 26th
  • The C2C Network’s call to prayer based on Luke 10:2. Set your smartphone to alert you daily at 10:02 am and stop to pray for labourers to be sent out into the harvest.

Let’s pray the Lord’s Prayer with fresh zeal for when we pray: “Your kingdom come” we are partnering with what Jesus is awakening in the nations right now — prayer for harvest!

Becoming a People of Forgiveness

Towards the end of the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus instructs us to pray this:
“Forgive us our sins…as we forgive… those that have sinned against us.”

As we forgive?
Wow! Did He really mean that!?

How do we react to such a prayer? Perhaps we’ve prayed through it quickly and haven’t paused to realize what we are saying. Or perhaps we’ve been mumbling this part, cause it’s something that is so radical, so costly, we aren’t sure if we can actually honestly pray it!

Either way, we have a window into God’s heart for forgiveness, which is both exhilarating with hope (we can be forgiven!!) and daunting as we come to grips with the standard Jesus has set (we must also forgive!)

Giving forgiveness to others, those that have hurt us, betrayed us, used us– is hard. Some of us have even given up and allowed unforgiveness a little room in our life’s attic because fully evicting it seems utterly beyond us. We just live in a way where we avoid opening that attic door. But Jesus is calling us to be disciples to look like Him, sound like Him, act like Him, and He is both quick and generous in His forgiveness.

In this Rooted Prayer episode, we are exploring how to pray this part of the prayer with victory. How to authenticly become a people of forgiveness!!

While the Lord’s Prayer is not a magic formula that fixes all that ails you…

Yet it is full of the gospel, it is full of Jesus and this means it becomes a way for us to have Him touch us, ministering to our needy and often, broken hearts.
Our society is moving towards more and more division, polarization, and isolation. The result is loneliness everywhere, as the most prevalent felt need, and most acutely so in urban centres.

But the Lord’s Prayer is a prayer of unity, community, and communion.
  • It builds unity like no other prayer.
  • It gives us keys for building a community that is healthy and redemptive.
  • It welcomes us into communion, where we walk in intimate relationship with the Father.

All of these (and more) lead us out of the exile of loneliness.
So whether you find yourself in moments of loneliness or it has been a crippling feature of your life for a long time, you can learn how the Lord’s Prayer gently leads us out in this newest Podcast.
Sow into Rooted PrayerWe’ve just reached the point where we have to now start paying for our uploading service, which we need to keep bringing these podcasts to you. If you are loving Rooted Prayer, why not invest a few dollars to support this ministry and make it available to others?!

Easter is the time when praise should be explosive!

It opens and closes with declaring the praises of God and teaches us that prayer and praise are two sides of the same coin.  How’s praise doing in your life? Is it robust, brimming with faith and revelation of Jesus? Or has it waned as you’ve encountered distractions, disappointments and stress?
Let’s reboot praise!

Here’s our latest podcast episode where we explore how to do just that and why rebooting praise at Easter makes so much sense.

How Much is Enough?

“Give us this day our daily bread!"
Picture
Most people, when considering this petition of asking for daily bread in the Lord’s Prayer (Lu 11:3) think immediately about provision. This is indeed a prayer for provision and it’s recognizing that regardless of what we have in the bank, or what kind of job we have, God is always, ultimately our Provider.

But there are some questions about provision that we should ask, like… “How much is enough?”
If we are recommending you pray this prayer daily, do you daily ask for MORE, even if you have lots? How much is enough?

How do we protect our hearts from the love of money if we are daily asking for more?In this podcast we are exploring all these questions and looking at the secret Paul taught us in handling money, even lots of money, without it influencing our hearts.
Enjoy!

8 Ways the Lord Breaks the Orphan Mindset -- Through the Lord's Prayer

2/15/2018

Even though you may be a Christian, do you ever feel alone and abandoned? Do you feel like you have to protect yourself, provide for yourself, or fight to be noticed? These and more are symptoms of a Orphan Mindset, a way of thinking and believing that doesn’t reflect the biblical reality of being adopted in Christ.
Sadly this is a mindset that we all struggle with to some degree and at some times.
But here’s the really good news: If you are a Christian, you have been adopted, by the most caring and skilled Father imaginable.

Yet so often we live like we haven’t been, we are afraid that we won’t have enough so we aren’t free to be generous. When relationships get tested, we react badly, seeking to control the outcome or protect what we feel we need. When we aren’t affirmed or encouraged we loose heart and can’t endure…  These are all signs that we are not living in that identity of adoption.

Jesus knew this when He gave us the Lord’s Prayer. He knew that praying the Lord’s Prayer daily would bring healing to our hearts and transform our thoughts. He knew it would  be an incredible tool that the Father would use to set us free from Orphan Mindsets. This is what we are exploring in this new episode, The Top 8 Ways God Breaks the Orphan Mindset — Through the Lord’s Prayer.

Being set free from this crippling mindset will lead us into greater and greater confidence, peace, generosity, boldness, faith, joy and more.
I promise you, you want this!!!
